The study’s aim was to determine the effect of the CVA on local and regional markets for achievement of lasting effect on the population. The findings of the study will provide valuable insights on the socio-economic multiplier effect of CVA on local and regional markets in Somalia and Somaliland and facilitate CARE to improve on its programing.
The research was guided by the five study questions below ;
- To what extent and in which ways does CVA stimulate and have beneficial knock-on effects for local and regional (Sool, Sanaag, Mudug, and Galgadud) economies by increasing or decreasing commodity prices, trade, investment, employment creation etc.?
- What are the negative or unexpected outcomes of CVA in local economies, in the particular context of unstructured markets?
- To what extent and in which ways does socio-economic impact spread through local economies and reach different stakeholders? Who are the winners and the losers and why?
- What are the direct impacts of cash and voucher transfers on the economy of households in the target population especially for women?
- What is the indirect impact on power dynamics and on social relationships at community level especially for women?
